IES Application form 2020 – UPSC releases the online application form filling for IES/ESE 2020 exam on September month. The official notification forESE / IES exam will be released on 25th September 2019. The minimum qualification to apply for ESE/IES exam is an engineering degree from the recognised university. The ESE/IES application form filling starts from 25th September and the last date to apply is on 15th October 2019. The application fee for the ESE/IES exam is Rs 200.

UPSC has introduced the facility to withdraw the applications for those candidates who do not want to appear forESE / IES exam, the detailed instructions are provided in this article.

How to Fill IES Application Form 2020
IES Application form for 2020 exam will be available on the official website (upsc.gov.in). IES 2020 exam appearing candidates can apply online mode.
To apply for IES exam, candidates should have the below-listed documents as pre-requisites to fill the IES application form:
- Email ID and Mobile number
- Mark sheets from class 10 to Engineering Degree
- Scanned photograph and signature images
- Category certificate (if required)
- Physical Disability certificate (if required)

- Log into the official UPSC website: www.upsconline.nic.in
- Click on Apply Online
- Fill in all the information in Part I
- Click Save and Continue
- Fill in all the information in Part II to pay the fees online
IES Online registration comprises of two stages
Stage 1: Filling Personal Details
Stage 2: Fee Payment, Exam Centre, Documents uploading
Stage 1: IES Online Registration
In the first stage of IES online application, candidates need to fill their personal details asked in the online application form.
List of details asked in the first stage of registration
- Name – Enter the name as provided in the Class 10 / 12 marksheet
- Parents name – Fill the parent’s name
- Gender – Select the gender from the drop-down menu
- Nationality – Select the nationality and if you do not fall under the Indian Citizen category, candidates need to submit relevant document provided by Government.
- Email and Phone Number – Provide valid Email ID and Phone number
- Academic Details: Academic Details of Class 10, Class 12 and Engineering Degree need to be filled – Year of Passing, Marks, board name and university name.
Stage 2: IES Online Registration
In this stage 2, candidates to submit the following details to complete the online registration process of IES exam.
- Fee Payment
- Select IES exam centres
- Upload the scanned photograph and signature
- Submit the application form by agreeing to the declaration
IES Application Form Fee
For UPSC Engineering services exam, candidates need to pay rupees 200 as an examination fee. Some candidates are exempted from fee – SC/ST and Female candidates.

ESE/IES Application Fee can be paid on online and offline mode. If candidates choose to fill IES application form online then they can choose Netbanking / Credit card / Debit card. If candidates choose to pay offline, then candidates can pay Rs 200 cash in SBI bank.
Uploading your Photograph and Signature for ESE/IES Application Form
The final step to completing your registration is uploading of your photograph and signature.
- The photograph and signature should be scanned to a JPG format
- The photograph should be 140 height x 110 width and not exceed 40 kb
- The signature should be 110 height x 140 width and not exceed 40 kb
- Ensure that your photograph and signature are properly cropped
Important Instructions to Fill IES application form
- Name and Date of Birth should be filled as stated in your 10th or 12th passing certificate.
- Parents name: Do not prefix salutations such as Mr/ Mrs/Dr to any of the names.
- Nationality: If you are not an Indian National, make sure to attach the certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.
- Enter your Email address which you check regularly, as all communication will be send to this ID.
- While setting a password, make sure it has 10 characters (including one special chaterter and one number).
- Your academic details should include the aggregate marks out of total markks, year of passing and the name of board for your 10th, 12th and B.Tech degree.
- Once the application is submitted, it cannot be corrected or withdrawn.
- Submit the application only once. Multiple application might result in the cancellation of applications.
- The choice of exam centre cannot be changed once the application is submitted.
- The choice of the post being applied for or the field of engineering cannot be changed at a later date.
- Incomplete application forms will be rejected.

IES Exam Pattern
UPSC conducts IES exam in three stages – Prelims, Mains and Interview. IES Prelims exam is objective paper and IES Mains exam questions are conventional papers.
Candidates need to qualify prelims exam to appear IES mains exam. The engineering streams are covered in IES exams include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunications engineering.

ESE/IES Application Form 2020 – Withdraw of Application
- Candidates are advised to go through the instructions carefully before filling up the request for withdrawal of the application.
- The Commission has provided the withdrawal facility from 22.10.2019 to 28.10.2019 (till 6.00 PM) to those candidates who do not want to appear at this Examination.
- Candidates are advised to provide the details of the registered application with registration‐id which was completed and submitted. There is no provision for withdrawing of incomplete applications.
- Before making the request for withdrawal, the candidate must ensure that they have access to the registered mobile number and email‐id which were provided by them at the time of submission of application. Separate OTPs will be sent by the Commission on the registered mobile number and email‐id. Request for withdrawal will be accepted only after it is confirmed by validating the OTP details sent on candidate’s mobile and email‐id. Such OTPs will be valid for 30 Minutes only.
- Request for generating OTP for withdrawal of application will be accepted only till 5.30 PM on 28.10.2019.
- If a candidate has submitted more than one application form then the higher registration‐id of Application (latest) will be considered for withdrawal and all earlier applications will be treated as cancelled automatically.
- After the final acceptance of the request for online withdrawal of the application, the candidate must print the authenticated receipt. Once the application has been withdrawn by the candidate, it cannot be revived in the future.
- UPSC has no provision to refund any fee amount paid by candidates, so in case of successful withdrawal of the application, fees will not be refunded.
- On successful completion of the withdrawal of the application, an auto‐generated email and SMS will be sent on the candidate’s registered email id and mobile. In case any candidate has not submitted the request for withdrawal of application he/she may contact UPSC on email‐id: upscsoap@nic.in immediately.
- Candidates are advised not to share the OTPs received on email and SMS to anybody.
