In the result of COAP, participating institutes make an offer on the basis of the candidate’s score in GATE 2020/2019 or 2018. What is COAP?
Common Offer Acceptance Portal, abbreviated as COAP is the portal where all the participating IITs and ISc Bangalore publish the seat allotment result. Admission in M.Tech courses at NITs and GFTIs is through CCMT portal. Students with valid GATE score seeking admission in M.Tech courses in any of the participating IITs or ISc Bangalore need to register in COAP portal and also apply to the institute. Students have to check their seat allotment status and accept/ reject the seat from COAP portal.
GATE COAP 2020 Result
With every round comes three options which a candidate can choose. The first is “Accept and Freeze”, second is “Retain and wait” and the third is “Reject and wait”. Candidates can check the GATE COAP 2020 Result schedule from the table given below.

GATE COAP Eligibility Criteria 2020
Students are advised to check the eligibility criteria of COAP 2020 before applying. Applications of students who do not meet the eligibility conditions are liable to be rejected. Students therefore must check the GATE COAP eligibility criteria before filling the form. The detailed eligibility criteria is discussed below
- Students must have a valid GATE score from year 2018, 2019 or 2020 to apply for COAP
- Students must also check the eligibility criteria of institutions for which applying
- Candidates having more than one valid GATE scores must provided the highest score during registration. However, such candidates are advised to enter the details about other score also.
- Candidates having GATE score in more than one paper must provide details about all the scores
How to Register for GATE COAP 2020
Students are provided below the detailed step by step guide to fill the GATE COAP registration form.
Step 1 – Registration: Applicants have to provide details about the GATE paper they have qualified and their “Date of Birth” to register for COAP. The following details will be required at the time of COAP registration

- GATE Score
- Date of Birth
Students will be required to click on “Validate” button after entering all the above details to confirm the details submitted.
Step 2 – Provide email address and mobile phone number: After validating the basic information, candidates have to provide their current/ working email address and mobile phone number. Candidates must provide their correct mobile number and email address as all they will receive login and password instructions and also all further communication related to GATE exam will also be communicated through in it. Click on the “submit” button after entering the details
Step 3 – Receive login information in email and mobile phone: Candidates will receive their login information in the registered email address and mobile phone number. Save the login details and also write it down separately so as not to miss it.
Step 4 – Login and verify details: Candidates have to next login using the credentials received and verify the details provided them. Some additional details about candidate and additional GATE score, if any can also be provided at this stage.
Step 5 – Final submission: Students have to submit the GATE COAP 2020 registration form after carefully verifying all the details. Students will not be able to make any corrections in their COAP registration form after final submission and so every details must be verified carefully before submission.
Step 6 – Students need to apply to every institute in which admission is desired after COAP registration.
Step 7 – Login after seat allotment to check admission status: Students will have to login after the seat allotment rounds to check their allotment status and confirm the seats allotted to them.
How to Check Admission Offers through GATE COAP 2020 Portal
Admission offers by all the participating IITs will be listed in COAP portal as per the schedule. Students have to login to their candidate portal using their login credentials to check the status of seat allotment. Students are provided below with the steps to check COAP seat allotment result 2020.
- Open COAP 2020 portal
- Login to candidate section using the login ID and password
- Click on the “Seat Allotment” button
- Students will see the status as institute wise allotment of seats for every institute in which applied
- Candidates has to confirm the seat allotment with options from “Accept and Freeze”, “Retain and Wait”, “Reject and Wait” and “Reject”
COAP 2020 Options – Accept and Freeze, Retain and Wait, Reject and Wait
Candidates has three options against the offers made by the participating institutes. Candidate can choose one option only. Check the options available to the candidate from the below given points.
Option 1 – “Accept and Freeze“: Candidate must choose this option if he/she is ready to go with the current offer and would not like to be considered for upgradation to higher preferences in the subsequent rounds.
Option 2 – “Retain and Wait”: Candidates who have accepted the present offer but would also like to be considered for upgrading to their higher preferences must choose this option. On selection of this option, candidate will not be considered for any rejected offers in the current round.
Option 3 – “Reject and Wait”: Candidate must select this option only if they are not willing to accept any of the offer. Candidates with this offer will not be considered for any other higher preferences.

To check the result, candidates can follow the below given steps.
Step 1: Visit the official website by clicking on the link given on this page under the table section.
Step 2: On the Homepage, click on the correct link which leads to “GATE COAP 2020 Result”.

Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) is a a common platform in which all the participating institutes upload their M.Tech. admission offers and then the registered candidates will select any one of the available offers. Candidate is allowed to select one offer out of available offers in each round. To access and make a decision on the most preferred choice out of the offers made by participating Institute, each candidate should register at COAP. There is no registration charges for COAP. Moreover, it’s registration has to be done from its official website.

GATE COAP Important Instructions
The candidates must keep in mind certain important instructions at the time of GATE COAP 2020 in order to complete the counselling procedure without facing any discrepancy. The important instructions for GATE 2020 counselling are given below:
- Candidate must note that all IIT institutes have separate forms for the counselling procedure.
- The candidates must bring all the original documents at the time of GATE 2020 counselling.
- After the GATE 2020 result is declared, the candidates should keep checking the official website for updates of GATE 2020 counselling.
- In order to increase the chances of getting admission into IITs, the candidates are advised to apply to all the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for all the programs such as M.Tech, ME, M.Sc, etc. for which they are eligible.
Question: What is COAP?
Answer:
COAP is a common platform for candidates where participating institutes publish the seat allotment result and students make the choice for admission into an M.Tech. Programme in the institutes. COAP is not a portal for applying for M.Tech. admission. Candidates have to apply separately to respective Institute for M.Tech. admission. Admission Offers will be uploaded by the participating Institutes in a common time window on COAP.
Question: Is it necessary for a candidate to register at COAP?
Answer:
Yes. Candidates who apply for admission into an M.Tech. Programme in any of the participating institutes have to register for COAP as they will receive admission offers via COAP only.
To access and make a decision on the allotted seats made by participating Institute, each candidate should register and visit COAP. Without registering at COAP, the candidate will not be able to access the offers on COAP.
Question: Can I apply for M.Tech. / Job to participating Institutes / PSUs through COAP?
Answer:
No. COAP is not an M.Tech. Admission / Job Application Portal. Every candidate should apply separately to respective Institute(s) for M.Tech. admission.
Question: Who can register for Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP)?
Answer:
Candidates seeking M.Tech admissions in any of the participating Institutes of COAP and who have a valid GATE 2020 score or from year 2019/ 2018 can register for COAP.
Question: How will I know the status of any offers?
Answer:
You can check the offer status, during the scheduled dates, by logging in to COAP (Common Offers Admission Portal) using your login id and password, sent to you by email/SMS after your registration at COAP.
Question: I have more than one valid GATE scorecards for the same paper. Which score card shall I use?
Answer:
It is advisable to register with the highest GATE Score.
During registration, you will also provide valid GATE score details of remaining years. You will register only once but registration details will include all other GATE scores of last three years. Failing to do so will result in disqualification.
Question: I have two or three valid GATE scorecards for two or three different papers. Can I use all the scores for GATE COAP?
Answer:
You will register only once. Subsequently, when you login COAP for the first time, you will provide all three/ two GATE scores (different papers) in one registration form. For example: if you have GATE Scores for EC and CS papers, then you can register with any one of the GATE paper score (EC or CS). And include the remaining GATE paper score when you login to COAP for the first time.
